CIANJ Holds Data Privacy & Protection Summit
September 6th, 2019
CIANJ held a data privacy and protection event in Jersey City yesterday where professionals gathered to discuss what New Jersey should do regarding this topic, if anything. With the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) in full force along with various states passing their own privacy laws, the discussion focused on how various business sectors handle personal identifiable information or PII and data in general from the time it is collected, stored, evaluated and ultimately destroyed or deleted (aka from cradle to grave).
There is no question that data and information drive today’s economy. One only needs to look at the market capitalization of Google, Facebook and Apple to realize that data and information are instrumental to our economy. Data is to today’s economy what steel and oil were to the economy 100 years ago.
The discussion ended with a bipartisan legislative panel where approaches to possible legislation were discussed. CIANJ thanks our sponsors, our attendees and our legislators who took the time from campaigning to be with us to discuss this important matter.
