CIANJ Joins Build Gateway Now Coalition
May 2nd, 2019
CIANJ is proud to announce it has joined Build Gateway Now which is seeking to secure full funding and support from the federal government for this critical infrastructure project. Build Gateway Now is a coalition of 40 civic, labor, business, and elected groups who know Gateway is a critical priority for the region and the nation’s economy.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey to the Build Gateway Now Coalition. It is imperative that we continue to advocate for a positive Record of Decision on the Hudson Tunnel Project Environmental Impact Statement and full funding for Gateway from the Federal Government. Having the support of this organization is an incredible boost to the Coalition, because CIANJ knows what the impacts will be if we fail to get this done.” said Build Gateway Now Campaign Manager Brian Fritsch.
The coalition has actively been supporting the release of Regional Plan Association report “A Preventable Crisis” which details the economic and human impacts of a partial shutdown of the Hudson river rail tunnel shutdown and calling on the U.S. Department of Transportation to release a positive Record of Decision for the Hudson tunnel project. The Coalition is also currently running a public petition to encourage relevant stakeholders to support the project. The petition needs less than 100 signatures to meet its goal.
“The Gateway Project is a critical infrastructure program that will significantly impact New Jersey’s economy and work must begin soon before the region faces the catastrophic impact if one of the two tunnels is forced to close,” said Anthony Russo, president, CIANJ. “We stand together with the members of the Build Gateway Now Coalition in asking the federal government to take action and provide full funding and support for Gateway.”
