Member News — Matrix New World Engineering Strengthens Environmental Health and Construction Safety Practice

Matrix New World Engineering (Matrix) today announced that Michael Johnston, a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) who brings more than 27 years of extensive Environment Health and Safety (EHS) experience, has joined the firm as Director of Environmental Health and Safety. He will be based in the company’s New York City office.
With extensive experience in industrial hygiene, asbestos/abatement management, and lead-based hazard assessments, Michael will focus on building the environmental health and construction safety practice in the NYC office. Michael has worked on prestigious projects throughout the region as a safety and security manager, and prides himself on teaming with stakeholders, owners and contractors to provide a high level of service to ensure construction projects have a safe work environment for all staff. He was most recently with WSP/Parsons Brinkerhoff, Inc., where he was an Assistant VP/Sr. Principal Technical Specialist since 1999, and directed their New York hazardous materials division.br />

Experienced with proposal development, quality assurance and control, and profit/loss and revenue tracking, Michael is well-versed in the operational and technical management of projects within the environmental health and safety sector. His extensive background ranges from Operations Management to Asbestos Management, Microbial Consulting Services, Hazardous Materials Management, Environmental Construction Management to Lead Management, and from Indoor Air Quality Services to Hazmat Services Management.
A native New Yorker, Michael is a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and American Society of Safety Engineers. He graduated from New York Medical College with a Master of Science in Experimental Pathology and Applied Environmental Science, and is a certified Microbial Consultant with licenses and certifications that include Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Licensed EPA Lead Risk Assessor, EPA Hazardous Waste Inspection Training, and numerous asbestos licenses in New York, Connecticut, Vermont, and Illinois.
