Member News — Columbia Bank Foundation Grant Supports Paterson’s St. Joseph’s University Medical Center
September 14th, 2018

St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, part of St. Joseph’s Health, is the latest recipient of a $75,000 grant from the Columbia Bank Foundation. The donated funds will be used to replace one of four heavily used Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) emergency vehicles.

Pictured in a special check presentation are Thomas J. Kemly, President and CEO of Columbia Bank, Kevin J. Slavin, President  & CEO of St. Joseph’s Health, Amy Dupuis, Executive Director of the Columbia Bank Foundation, Richard Abbate , Senior Vice President, Corporate Development Officer, and John Nickel, Director of the MICU.

“We are pleased to be supporting the compassionate efforts of St. Joseph’s University Medical Center,” said Thomas J. Kemly, President and CEO. “This investment will provide greater reliability, reduced response times, and help serve the many patients St. Joseph’s MICU treats each year.” St. Joseph’s MICU responds to over 20,000 calls annually and treats those suffering from strokes, heart attacks, and other traumas.

Over the years, the Columbia Bank Foundation has partnered with St. Joseph’s, both in Paterson and at St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center, supporting health care services and life-saving capabilities. In the past, Foundation grants have supported the “St. Joseph’s is the Future” capital campaign, purchased a new emergency defibrillator, and helped to fund the development of the state-of-the-art Neuroscience Surgical and Treatment Center. Through Columbia Bank’s Employee Sponsored Giving Program, employees also nominate local charitable organizations to receive special Foundation donations—St. Joseph’s Mental Health Clinic received $1,000 and St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital received a $500 donation.

Created to serve the needs of local communities, the Columbia Bank Foundation provides grants and contributions to organizations recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Columbia Bank Foundation actively seeks to provide support in seven major areas: affordable housing programs, community investment and economic development opportunities, financial literacy and educational opportunities, health and human services, community sponsored events, food pantries, and the arts. Special consideration is always given to programs that provide a measurable community impact.
