Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced that David Mahoney, PE, has been promoted to alternative project delivery operating unit manager. An executive vice president who has been with the firm for more than 30 years, Mahoney has extensive experience directing large-scale transportation engineering projects, including major design-build initiatives throughout the Washington metropolitan area. In his new role, he will oversee the Dewberry’s vertical, horizontal, and water/wastewater design-build services nationally, including public-sector facilities as well as major bridge, highway, and transit projects.
Mahoney has been responsible for the successful delivery of more than $6 billion in highway and rail projects, including the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Silver Line Phase II; the Route 28 improvements project built using Virginia’s Public-Private Transportation Act; the Dulles Greenway in Northern Virginia; and Contracts C and D/E for the Intercounty Connector in Maryland.
“Dave has been instrumental in expanding our practice in design-build and other accelerated delivery projects,” says Dewberry CEO Donald Stone, PE. “He has overseen many large and complex transportation projects, with consistent success. Dave has been a strong advocate for cost-saving and innovative design solutions and has been influential in promoting design-build for decades.”
A licensed professional engineer in several states, Mahoney is a member of the Design-Build Institute of America, the American Public Works Association, the Dulles Area Transportation Association, and the American Road & Transportation Builders Association. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (1984) from South Dakota State University.
