New Cancer Care Center a Catalyst for Economic Development in Montvale
March 15th, 2018

A state-of-the-art cancer care facility that Memorial Sloan Kettering is opening in Montvale in July will be a catalyst for new development, borough officials said this week at a special forum they hosted with CIANJ.

Mayor Mike Ghassali opened the forum, telling the business leaders that “we want you to prosper, succeed and grow in Montvale.” The four-square-mile community is home to residents from 44 countries, who speak 22 different languages.

Since 2016 more than 90 businesses have opened in the borough. Officials pointed to the resurgence as proof that Montvale is overcoming the losses it suffered when A&P closed its headquarters and Mercedes Benz shuttered its doors.

Officials said they envision a “healthcare ecosystem” taking shape in borough that will provide excellent medical services, while also offering opportunities for business. Anthony Russo, president of the Commerce and Industry Association of NJ (CIANJ) was invited by the Montvale Economic Development and Retention Committee to moderate the discussion.

CIANJ is a statewide business advocacy organization, representing more than 900 members. The Montvale committee joined the association last year.

The committee is comprised of dedicated residents including: Raffi Joukhardian, chairman, John Ryan, vice chairman, Louis Hendi, Melinda Kelly, David Laquidera, Sal Rozzi, Kunal Verma and Don Watson.

The panelists participating in the forum included: from Memorial Sloan Kettering, Rosanna Fahy, vice president of ambulatory care and Wendy Perchick, chief of strategy; Dr. Robert Brenner, chief physician at Valley Health System; Loretta Orlando, associate counsel at Hackensack Meridian Health; John Corcoran, CEO of D’Alessandro Inc.; Bryan Johnson, managing director at CBRE; and Rebecca Perkins, vice president of government affairs at BioNJ.
