Between April and June 2026, DRAM contract prices rose 58 to 63 percent from the prior quarter. NAND flash prices climbed 70 to 75 percent, according to TrendForce. The market stayed tight into the third quarter, and prices kept rising even as the pace eased. That shift matters if you hold retired servers, laptops or drives. Two things about this market matter if you plan a refresh. First, the biggest buyers lock in supply through long-term agreements. That ties up future output before it reaches the open market. Second, the shortage will not clear quickly. TrendForce sees a clear enterprise SSD shortage in 2026, with real new capacity unlikely before late 2027 or 2028. It also expects server DRAM to stay undersupplied through the third quarter of 2026. When new supply is scarce and costly, buyers turn to what already exists. What Retired Equipment Is Actually Worth Money Right Now
The macro story helps only when you apply it to your own shelves. The parts a tight market wants are the ones businesses retire all the time. Server RDIMM memory, DDR4 and DDR5 modules and enterprise SSDs are in active demand. Whole retired systems can carry value when the parts inside them are scarce. TrendForce reports that high-capacity server RDIMMs are now the primary procurement target for cloud buyers. It adds that enterprise SSD orders show no sign of slowing.
