Holy Name Medical Center today announced the appointment of Dr. Iris Erguder-Saman to director of Integrative Medicine. Dr. Erguder specializes in family medicine with an expertise in integrative medicine, and has been practicing as a Holy Name Medical Partner since 2013.
Dr. Erguder’s practice focuses on a mind-body approach to health and wellness. The program begins with an initial assessment of a person’s diet, activity level, and lifestyle and from there, Dr. Erguder and her team will incorporate evidence-based holistic therapies into a customized treatment plan.
“Integrative medicine combines holistic mind/body eastern medicine techniques and philosophies, such as acupuncture and nutrition, with conventional western medicine,” said Adam Jarrett, MD, chief medical officer at Holy Name Medical Center. “We are thrilled to have Dr. Erguder leading this effort. It’s about treating the whole person, not just a symptom or disease.”
Dr. Erguder will also collaborate with Holy Name’s specialists, while also leveraging the hospital’s medical fitness center. Patients can access and enroll in nutrition counseling, yoga, Tai-Chi, and meditation, among other programs offered at HNH Fitness.
“I am so excited for the opportunity to educate and empower individuals to establish a preventive mindset so that they can live a more balanced lifestyle,” said Dr. Erguder. “What I love about the integrative approach is working to find the root cause of a person’s disease or symptom, and then partnering with that person to determine how they can successfully reach their health and wellness goals.”
Dr. Erguder earned her medical degree from Universidad Iberamericana (UNIBE) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and was the Chief Resident in Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in the Bronx, NY. She completed her fellowship in Integrative Medicine at Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, San Diego, CA. Prior to joining Holy Name Medical Partners, she was the assistant Director of Research in Hematology and Oncology for Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, NY.
She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, and the American Medical Association, and holds a certification for International IV Nutritional Therapy from Global Physicians Education, San Diego, CA.
