Member News -- Berkeley College Celebrates Life of..

Berkeley College students, faculty and staff are commemorating the impact of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. through community service and special events this month.

January 17, 2019

Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: Berkeley College Student Center, 430 Rahway Avenue, Woodbridge, NJ

Students and associates will view and discuss the PBS documentary “Citizen King,” which chronicles the final five years of Dr. King’s life, from the “I Have a Dream” speech in August 1963 to his assassination in 1968.

January 17, 2019

Time: 10:45 a.m. to 12 noon

Location: Volunteers will meet in the Berkeley College Student Center, 64 East Midland Avenue, Paramus, NJ, and will walk to New Life Adult Day Care.

Volunteers will visit the community for senior citizens to play games and host a dance party.

Location: Berkeley College Student Activities Center, 3 East 43rd Street, New York, NY

Berkeley College will collect nonperishable food items for Citymeals on Wheels.

January 21, 2019

Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location: 522 Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn, NY

The mission of AHRC New York City’s Adult Day Services is to support residents with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and autism spectrum disorders, and to help them live meaningful lives in their communities. Volunteers will distribute food to those in need and will coordinate activities to raise awareness of food insecurity.

Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location: 101 Norfolk Street, Manhattan, NY

Volunteers will serve at the Norfolk Day Center, an initiative of AHRC New York City, which supports residents with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and autism spectrum disorders.

January 22, 2019

Time: 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Location: Berkeley College Student Activities Center, 255 Duffield Street, Brooklyn, NY

Volunteers will assemble snacks for those in need through #Hashtag Lunchbag.

January 23, 2019

Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Location: Berkeley College Student Lounge, 536 Broad Street, Newark, NJ

The Icla da Silva Foundation, a recruitment center for Be the Match, will educate students and associates about bone marrow donation, and will register potential donors.

January 23, 2019

Time: 12 to 2 p.m.

Location: Volunteers will meet at Room 318, Berkeley College, 99 Church Street, White Plains, NY, before traveling to Feeding Westchester.

Volunteers will organize boxes of food in the pantry and will pack boxes for various food distributions throughout Westchester County.

January 24, 2019

Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m.

Location: Berkeley College Atrium, Renaissance Hall, 44 Rifle Camp Road, Woodland Park, NJ

Volunteers will create no-sew fleece blankets for Project Linus, an organization that delivers handmade blankets to hospitalized children.
