Nearly 200 women filled the ballroom at the Upper Montclair Country Club this week for CIANJ’s first Women in Commerce networking event. Women from all different industries – engineering, accounting, law, communications, finance and more – made connections with one another as well as CIANJ board members and staff.
Tracy Straka, former chair of the CIANJ board, welcomed everyone to the event. Straka shared that this event was merely the beginning of the association’s plan to expand opportunities for female members to network with one another moving forward. A LinkedIn group – CIANJ’s Women in Commerce – was started for those interested in continuing the networking beyond the breakfast event. Those who couldn’t attend this week’s event but are interested in future events are encouraged to join the group.
Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from former lieutenant governor Kim Guagdano, now a partner with Connell Foley, one of the main sponsors of the event. Guagdano stressed the importance of supporting each other’s businesses and helping to create opportunities for women to thrive in their organizations.
Other speakers included Judy DeLorenzo, Plast-o-Matic Valves, Stephanie Schwartz, Atlantic Health System, Cindy Perrotta, Atlantic Stewardship Bank, Patricia Diaz, Dorfman Abrams Music and Ellen Lalwani, Lakeland Bank. A highlight of the event was the tasting of a new breakfast beer brought by event sponsor Anheuser Busch who was represented by Maura Quinn and Grace Simon.
Due to popular demand, CIANJ staffers are already planning another Women in Commerce event later this year. Stay tuned for further details!
