New Jersey’s First Lady Tammy Murphy was the featured speaker at press conference organized by the Time is Now Action Coalition, founded by Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttlle and the YWCA of Bergen County, in response to the #MeToo movement to end sexual harassment and violence.
The Time is Now Action Coalitions held several town hall meetings where attendees shared their stories of sexual harassment, discrimination and assault earlier in the year. At the press conference, the findings of the town hall meetings were shared and the next steps for the group were laid out. Although the initial work has focused on Bergen County, the goal is to take the coalition statewide which is why Murphy attended to show her support for the initiative.
CIANJ was represented at the Time is Now Action Coalition press conference by Tracy Schoenberg, manager of communications and social media for CIANJ. Commerce and Industry supports the coalition’s goal of having employers create safe workplaces for all employees. The chief focus of the coalition is to end sexual harassment and sexual violence in the workplace and in the greater community. The coalition is a diverse collection of elected officials, non-profit and corporate executives, social service agencies, labor unions, educators and faith-based organizations.
