5G Technology is Coming to New Jersey in 2018

What is 5G? The G stands for generation, so simply stated 5G is the fifth generation of wireless technology. At the end of last year, the industry came up with a universal standard for 5G and the major wireless carriers will begin to roll it out this year with an anticipated worldwide roll out by 2020.

What does 5G mean for you and your business? The speed at which your data travels will get significantly faster – estimates are between 30 to 50 times faster than current 4G networks. You will be able to connect more devices and the responsiveness of your connections will be even better. Video quality will also take a step to the next level and virtual reality will be even easier to use on your devices.

Although mobile phones with 5G capability won’t be widely available until 2019, the infrastructure for the 5G network is moving forward in 2018. Verizon is deploying serious resources in 2018 to get a 5G home internet service off the ground as a first step in establishing this network.

To broaden the understanding of what 5G is and what it will mean for our members, CIANJ has teamed up with Verizon to host a special event at their headquarters on March 9. “5G – The Next Generation of Wireless” will feature a panel discussion explaining the technology, the improvements to infrastructure and what businesses will be able to achieve using 5G that they couldn’t do on prior technology. This event is free for members and includes a light breakfast.
