To help victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, Goya Foods employees and volunteers are gathering water, food and other items to donate to the victims. Many of the items came from the community and local radio stations.
Silvia Vera, who works in the executive offices at Goya, is pitching in to do her part for the relief effort. She says getting the items to Puerto Rico is a challenge, but adds now that the Jones Act has been lifted there is more of a chance the people will get what they desperately need. Goya is also donating 300,000 pounds of food and water to send to Puerto Rico.
Goya has a large presence in Puerto Rico. The company lost about $25 million of product and infrastructure in the storm.
