Supporting business-minded candidates

PENPAC offers business a perfect way to participate in the political arena by learning more about the process and supporting candidates committed to making New Jersey a better place to live, work and conduct business. Whether you are a political junkie or a neophyte, PENPAC makes sense for you.

It was established in 1979 as the political arm of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey. Its name is an acronym for the Private Enterprise Political Action Committee (PENPAC), which provides financial support to business-minded candidates running for seats in New Jersey’s General Assembly and Senate.

CIANJ has a long history of business advocacy and commitment to the free market philosophies. PENPAC complements the legislative lobbying done by CIANJ. While the committee is affiliated with CIANJ, it is governed by an independent board of trustees. The trustees determine which candidates receive endorsements and/or financial support from PENPAC.

Each year PENPAC hosts special events, such as a beefsteak dinner and roundtable discussions featuring key legislators, to raise funds for its operations. PENPAC also directly solicits donations from members, individuals and firms interested in helping elect pro-business candidates. Donors can select from different contribution packages, ranging from the supporter level to the patron and the free enterprise circle. The benefits of each package are explained below.

Incumbents and challengers from any political party are eligible to receive PENPAC funds, provided they demonstrate a belief in free market concepts, commit to reducing government regulations, support efforts to control state spending and oppose unwarranted tax increases. They must also have a reasonable possibility of being elected.

All PENPAC’s activities are detailed in quarterly reports filed by the treasurer with the state Election Law Enforcement Commission. The agency is headquartered in Trenton and it regulates campaign finance in New Jersey.

PENPAC supporters want their voices heard. A donation to PENPC allows you to leverage your campaign contribution by combining it with other business people to promote a unified message that is difficult to ignore.
