The cover story in the September 2016 issue of COMMERCE showcases the STEM degree programs at CIANJ member colleges and universities. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math—degree fields which are in demand and place graduates on track for high-paying jobs. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, jobs in STEM fields are predicted to increase 17 percent by 2018, compared to 9.8 percent growth in non-STEM-related occupations.
The issue also features an exclusive interview with NASA Astronaut Dr. Leroy Chiao, a former commander of the International Space Station. Dr. Chiao assesses America’s space program; compares it to the European, Chinese and Russian space programs; discusses breakthrough technologies for space exploration; analyzes the steps necessary to prepare for an eventual mission to Mars; and highlights the commercial opportunities, such as launching satellites, that have grown out of space exploration.
Other articles included in the issue cover important topics such as security, cybersecurity, forensic accounting, National Ovarian/Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, banking for Millennials, and LSRPs and brownfield remediation.
