The Valley Hospital:
Aside from contributing over $100,000 to eight local not-for-profits and charities, The Valley Hospital’s dining staff plans menus and prepares meals for Community Meals Inc., a private non-profit “Meals-on-Wheels” organization. Cold and hot nutritious meals are prepared and packed at the Valley Hospital and delivered to those in need.
Riker Danzig staff are regular volunteers at the Table of Hope, a soup kitchen located in Morristown. The soup kitchen feeds over 100 individuals each week night and serves as a food pantry for those in need. Riker Danzig attorneys and staff all get involved and raise money for the Table of Hope through hosting wear jeans to work days in exchange for contribution, and have been doing so since 2013.
Sponsored by the NJCPA Young CPAs Council, NJCPA collected more than 3,000 pounds of food during its September-to-November food drive for the benefit of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. Also, seventeen young CPAs spent a day volunteering time at the foodbank’s facility, placing pasta into family-sized bags.
To help combat hunger in Northern New Jersey, M&T Bank established a new partnership with the Center for Food Action this year. Employees volunteered for a variety of events at CFA’s warehouse including, packaging Thanksgiving Care Bags and the preparation of 500 Weekend Snack Packs to help area school children who may not have adequate nutrition outside of school.
Working hard to combat hunger, Investors Banks maintains a strong presence in soup kitchens in New Jersey and New York. Employees volunteer their time to help prepare and serve food to those in need. Investors Banks also offers grants to organizations that combat hunger. A recent example includes a $150,000 grant to Meals on Wheels of Staten Island, an organization that ensures elderly receive nutritious meals.
Inserra Supermarkets gives back to the community through a vast rage of charitable endeavors to benefit organizations large and small. In particular, the family-owned grocery chain combats hunger in the communities it serves; donating food to Table to Table, a community based food rescue program. Inserra also holds several events annually and has given monetary contributions totaling nearly $37 million to over 1,700 charities.
Columbia Bank’s charitable support goes well beyond simply writing checks; there is a defined purpose behind it, including finding and supporting programs that help to feed the poor and homeless. Columbia’s partnership with the Center of United Methodist Aid in the Community (CUMAC) is one example of its feed-the-hungry endeavors. Employee volunteers work with CUMAC to prepare food for distribution to poor and homeless families in the Paterson area. Additionally, as food bank donations typically drop in vacation months, bank volunteers purchased a special shipment of bulk food to replenish pantry shelves this summer.
Wells Fargo team members pitched in at the Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center of Morristown, N.J. Staff served warm and nutritious meals to individuals and families in the area, as well as presented a $7,500 grant to support its programs.
Each year, Goya actively engages with over 250 non-profits and charitable endeavors that promote and sustain community wellness and advancement of the Hispanic culture. Over the years, Goya has donated millions of pounds of food to victims of various disasters and charities worldwide including Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Isaac and Irene, the earthquake in Haiti, to name a few.
To help combat the hunger epidemic in our communities, Konica Minolta works with New Jersey based non-profits including the Center for Food Action, MEVO and Table to Table. The company’s own program, Food for Thought, aims to alleviate hardships felt by families that lose access to free school lunch programs during the summer months. Employees volunteer and collect nutritious food items to pack kid-friendly meals, which are delivered to local food banks and distributed to children in need.
At Eastwick College, combating local hunger is one of the primary goals of the Eastwick Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization that provides donations and scholarships for a long list of worthy causes in the state, the country and even abroad. To illustrate just how far donations can go towards local families in need, Mr. Eastwick, president of Eastwick College, gave each attendee at a prestigious award ceremony a $5 bill, representing the minimum daily cost to feed a family of four. Mr. Eastwick asked the attendees to make a choice: keep the money or return it for collection for the cause. This demonstration had an enormous impact on those in attendance, raising $25,000 for five local food banks that night.
Princeton HealthCare System:
Employees, physicians and volunteers from the Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS) donated more than a dozen packed boxes worth of non-perishable food to the Plainsboro Township Food Pantry in PHCS’ annual “Tackle Hunger” food drive. PHCS’ Tackle Hunger program coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day each year to echo his message of giving back to one’s community. During the event, food is collected at University Medical Center of Princeton, Princeton House Behavioral Health and many other PHCS locations.
